Tori Bidwell
‘Subconscious Order’
Stop Motion Film of Wall Drawing
Throughout the course of her 9 day exhibition, Metamorphose, Tori will be developing a large scale wall drawing, using only the geometric shape of the triangle and a few rules that will limit her drawing into a monotonous exercise. In her work she explores the patterns and geometry that can be seen in nature, and how this is an entirely human construct. Tori’s subconscious development of the triangles into a structure that is reminiscent of a landscape, conveying the psychological conditioning of the scientific world of today, compelling us to explain and structure nature in an attempt to control it. The repetition drawing is a test of paitience, asking the artist to work as a machine. The mistakes in the drawing show humanity, relating to the Japanese aesthetic ideal of Wabi-Sabi; that beauty lies in imperfection.
